Maldives – A Destination For Everyone!
The Maldives is a garland of ancient islands laying just south of India and SriLanka. Our country is made up of 1200 islands stretching 800km from North to South and has often been described as a necklace strewn across the Indian Ocean. We are very are blessed with a warm tropical climate throughout the year and monsoon rains during the mid-year.
Although our people have been living on these isles for more than 2000 years, we became independent in 1965. Tourism was introduced in the early 1970s.
The palm-fringed isles, white sandy beaches, and rainbow reefs continue to wow locals and visitors alike. With direct flights from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East it has become easier to reach Maldives. High-end luxury brands have established their hotels in the ‘one island, one hotel’ concept. During the last decade, the Government started issuing licenses to operate guesthouses on local islands. This has opened up the country for budget travellers.
